Might be shorts and t-shirt weather here in North Texas now... but actual winter finally arrives tonight! 🥶

Don't think there will be any other bike rides this weekend!

First bit of for 2022 was pretty zippy for me! Made 16.8 mph average over 14 miles out, and 16.1 mph over the 12 miles back. 2021 was definitely a year in which I got a lot fitter, so it wasn’t all bad 😀

Plan for tonight… grill some chicken burgers, drink some beer, play some records…. probably fail to make it to midnight 😴

Last bit of for the year. Up to the edge of Castle Hills, under dreary grey suburban skies. GPS track messed up again, but ending the year with 1,307 miles on the bike. Cheers!

May just have bought this.... apologies but I'm actually a Windows user 🤪

Yes…. I’m sure that’s the biggest worry for your New Years Eve plans 🙄

Listening in to the last 33 1/3rd vinyl mix show from @buttstuf tonight.

Thanks for all the tunes buttstuf! Certainly inspired me to get back into messing with vinyl dance music again 😃

Went home the same way, stopping at Sonic for a snack, where there was a friendly cat hanging out. Hopped off the bike at Old Town Lewisville station this time.... avoiding the crappy bit of the trail to the landfill and past it.

Had GPS issues, so no proper map... but about 40 miles for the full trip.

Won't do this one again. It's long, but not that pleasant or interesting. Trails in Irving and Dallas, Plano etc. are much much nicer.

Downtown Denton's square is nicer 🙂 A picturesque county courthouse in the middle, and lots of shops around. It was busy with many mask-less, so I didn't stop and eat here 😕

Across Lewisville Lake the trail comes in a bit from I35, running next to the tracks. Far too many street crossings to deal with, and lots of ugly sound barrier walls as we pass through the Lake Cities (some small suburban cities), Corinth, and up into the outskirts of Denton. There was a Longhorn to see though 🙂

At Highland Village Station there's a serpentine path up to the intersection above Interstate 35. From here the trail runs in some space stolen from the I35 frontage road, between 2 concrete barriers and across the lake. Lots of glass and sandy debris. The lake crossing is not very picturesque, obscured by bridges.

The bottom part of the trail below Lake Lewisville is not good. In Lewisville, it snakes away from the tracks to run along a sidewalk past the landfill. Then there's a 'temporary' (multi year) diversion onto narrow bike lines on the streets, covered in gravel and sand from cement plants. Eventually rejoin the tracks, and a dedicated path goes through a golf course. Mind the flying balls!
